About VIVA
The Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA) is the consortium of the nonprofit academic libraries within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Members include all of Virginia’s state-assisted colleges and universities, as well as 33 private, nonprofit institutions and the Library of Virginia.

VIVA’s Mission
VIVA’s mission is to provide, in an equitable, cooperative and cost-effective manner, enhanced access to library and information resources for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s nonprofit academic libraries serving the higher education community.

VIVA’s Electronic Resources
Research databases acquired by VIVA are purchased cooperatively and libraries avoid costly duplication in acquisitions by coordinating their work and by committing to share resources through affordable interlibrary loan services.  The extraordinary collections provided by VIVA cover a wide array of disciplines and include:

    • Over 20,000 full-text journals providing access to millions of articles,
    • Approximately 24,000 electronic books,
    • 6,300 academic videos,
    • More than 2 million additional full-text reports, dissertations, conference proceedings, pamphlets, newspapers, and
    • More than 170 databases supporting research and education.
